Sefer Chavat Da’at on Yoreh Deah, the deep, scholarly composition of the great Gaon Rabbi Yaakov Lorberbaum of Lisa the author of Netivot Hamishpat and more. Printed in Josefow in 1827. 72 leaves. In this copy, leaf 31 is missing. No binding. Stains. Moth damage and blemishes. Fair overall condition. 

Appearing on the title page are three types of stamps indicating this copy was owned by the Tzaddik Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Salant, one of them signature-like. 

The Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Salant (1816-1909), The acclaimed Rabbi of Jerusalem for over 70 years, and the leader of all Ashkenazic communities in the Land of Israel. Was famed as a Gaon and prodigy, already in his youth, At the age of Bar Mitzvah he received a letter from his Rav, Rabbi Abeli concerning a complicated divorce matter, indicating that his Rav trusted him as an outstanding Torah scholar even then. He Studied in the town of Salant with his friend the Gaon Rabbi Yisrael of Salant [founder of the Mussar Movement]. He immigrated to Eretz Yisrael in 1841, to serve as teacher and Rav of the "Prushim", disciples of Hagra, who lived in Jerusalem. Founded education and charity institutes in the city, founded a Beit Din and strengthened the Ashkenazic community.
