Buyer's premium:

Typewritten letter on the official letterhead of Rabbi Yechezkel Feigin "secretary of the Admor Shalita of Lubavitch", the secretary of the Rebbe Rayatz, sent from Warsaw on the 7th of Cheshvan 1934. Addressed to Rabbi Menachem Mendel Kupershtock – the Chassidic Rav of Glebokie.

The letter deals with the figure of the person who is supposed to replace Rabbi Kupershtock as the Rav of Glebokie and the required procedures to do so. The search, of course, was for a venerable rabbinic figure, a Chassid, who will be acceptable to the community. The loyal secretary writes, in short, the Rebbe’s response to his letter and then elaborates himself on the subject:

"… אבל לפועל כשיתבונן בזה הרי יבין מעצמו שאין שייך טענותיו של כבודו גם אם היו צודקות כולם… אמת הדבר אשר בענין הרבנות יש טענת חזקה בכלל וביחוד במצב כבודו אשר הניח ע"ז דמים תרתי משמע וודאי הי’ לו רשות למכור הרבנות אבל הכי בשביל זה יכולים למכור הרבנות למשל לרקח או לחייט…"

The content is fascinating and the subject is loaded. Due to its sensitivity, we shall not go into details here. The language was translated from Yiddish, the spoken language of those days. At its end, he signed: sincerely and with many blessings "Yechezkel Feigin". The text contains handwritten corrections, additions and markings.

The content spreads over to the other side of the leaf. 22.5X28 cm. Fold lines. A tear to the edge not affecting the text.

The Chassid Rabbi Yechezkel Feigin (1895-1941) the personal secretary of the Rebbe Rayatz and the secret manager of the Tomchei Temimim yeshivas of the USSR.
