The gaon Rabbi Shmuel HaLevi Wosner (1913-2015), the Shevet HaLevi, was the Rosh Yeshiva of Chochmei Lublin in Bnei Brak, and a gadol among the poskim of the last generation and was known as a “posek hador”. He was a talmid muvhak of the gaon Rabbi Meir Shapira of Lublin. In 1939 he immigrated to Israel and settled first in Jerusalem, where he studied under Rabbi Shimshon Aharon Polonsky (the Rebbe of Teplik), from whom he received the masoret and guidance in halachot chamurot of Yoreh De’ah, which he transmitted in his teachings.
In 1947 he was appointed (at the instigation of the Chazon Ish) as Rav and Av Beit Din of Zichron Meir in Bnei Brak, where he served until his passing. The Chazon Ish is known for having said: “in our time the four amot of Torah can be found at the Rav of the Zichron Meir neighborhood”.
