Set of first editions of the Chumash and Siddur HaRoveh (Torat Moshe)—Redelheim 1818-21.

Start price: $500

Buyer's premium: 25%

Chumash and siddur Torat Moshe, complete set. With Yiddish translation and the exegesis Mincha Chadasha, edited by the gaon Rabbi Wolf bar Shimshon Ish Heidenheim (the Roveh). Unique, extremely important edition revered over the generations.

Each section has the siddur for Shabbos with the shacharit prayers and mussaf, and the relevant parshahs have the yotzrot for special shabboses. Separate title page for the haftaroth.

The gedolim really appreciated the fruits of the Roveh’s labour, as appears in the title pages of these chumashim: “precisely organized and complete”. The Baal HaTanya ordered the printer Rabbi Yisrael Yafeh of Kapost to edit his siddur following the nusach of the Roveh “because he is very precise”. The Chatam Sofer expressed: “He spent much time on the piyyutim and translating them into Yiddish, and without him they would have been forgotten already, and not said in these subsequent generations.”

Genesis: [3], 143, 24, 4, 40 leaves.

Various bibliographic lists are not detailed enough and errors have proliferated. We have listed what appears in these copies, which appear to be complete.

Four of the bindings appear to be from the period (leather spines, partially defective); Genesis has worming damage, stains; overall good condition.
