The Admor Rabbi David Shlomo Eibeschitz (1755-1814) was a posek and rabbi in a number of Galician and Romanian communities. He wrote a number of foundational works in halacha, drush, chassidus, which became key works in the Jewish library upon their release, including the Levushei Srad and Arvei Nahal (foundational works of chassidus). He moved to Israel in 1808 and settled in Tzfat.
He was a student of the Baal HaYosher Divrei Emet “Raabi Meshulam Feivush Heller”, the Maggid Rabbi Yehiel Michal of Zlatchow (whom he mentions in his book in Parshat Ki Tisa), and Rabbi Zeev Wolf of Czarny Ostrów. He was appointed by the maggid’s students in his generation, Rabbi Yaakov Shimshon of Shepetivka, Rabbi Baruch of Mezhibuzh, Rabbi Levi Yitzhak of Berdichev, and more. He served first as a rosh yeshiva in Nadvorna where he taught some of the most famous students of the period, including Rabbi Avraham Davi of Buchach (author of the Eshel Avraham). Later he served in the rabbinate of Khorostkiv and in Bodzanów (Galicia), and then he moved to serve as Rabbi in Surka (Romania) and was one of the first chassidim in Romania. He moved to Israel with Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Shklov and settled in Tzfat, where he died around five years later. He is buried in a cave together with Rabbi Avraham Dov of Owrucz, author of the Bat Ayin.
