Pretty glass platter, decorated in an elliptical stylish pattern. On the bottom are embossed reliefs of plants and a circle for placing a bottle. 18x26cm. Excellent condition.
This platter was used by the Rebbetzin Schorr—wife of Rabbi Gedalya Schorr, a head of the Torah v’Daat yeshiva (USA)—to serve refreshments in meetings between gedolim which they hosted at home. Accompanied by a written certificate from the person who received this as a gift from the family.
The Gaon Rabbi Gedalyahu HaLevi Schorr (1910-1979) was the head of the Torah v’Daat yeshiva in the USA and a leader of Haredi Jewry in the US. He was a close student of the gaon Rabbi Aharon Kotler, and because he was descended from Chassidic gedolim he incorporated a little of their way into his educational teaching and its influence can be seen in some of his students such as Rabbi Moshe Wolfson. He died suddenly in the middle of a student’s seudat sheva brachot, just a few minutes after finishing his speech in honor of the groom.
After his death a series of his books, “Or Gedalyahu” was published—on the Torah, masechtot of Shas, and mussar conversations, gathered from his shiurim and conversations in yeshiva.
