Zion LaNefesh Chaya, known as the Tzlach, an important work on the Masechtot of Shas by the gaon Rabbi Yehezkel Zvi Landau (the Noda B’Yehuda). Here included are masechtot Brachot and Pesachim, with an additional title page. Relatively early edition. [2], 62, [1], 48, 37 (supposed to be 38) pages.
Partially printed on light-blue paper, the introduction is by the author and his son, leather binding, light stains, moth marks in the margins of the title page and two first pages, overall good condition.
The title page and first page have two
handwritten notes of ownership by Rabbi Dov Beer Dushinsky, the Av Beit Din of Nomesta: “as a gift I received this from my dear friend Shmuel Zvi on Sunday of Parshat Tzav, 5632 (1872), Dov Beer Dushinsky.” Stamp in the local language: “S. Schlesinger”, with a note in the body of the work.
Rabbi Dov Beer Dushinsky (1838-1922) was the son of Rabbi Meir of Nodosh and great-grandson of Rabbi Yaakov Peterzleky of Nodosh. He was a student of the Ktav Sofer and his relative Rabbi Pinchas Deutsch of Ilova. He was the son-in-law of Rabbi Avraham Yehezkel Reich of Banovitz. In 1867 he was appointed the rabbi of Nomesta and Trestena, until his name became well-known across Galicia. He fought the Reform movement fiercely. After 52 years of peaceful leadership, in 1919 during the Revolution his community was pillaged and destroyed, and he was barely saved and managed to flee to his son in Aplata. His sons are Rabbi Yaakov Koppel of Kostel and London and Rabbi Yehiel Michal of Rakosh Polota.
