In the letter, the author details claims against an educational institution for girls where the spoken language is Hebrew: “many parents removed their daughters from the Talmud torah for girls Agudas Yisrael, and put them into the new heder…and they based their actions on Rav Gaon Moharar Rav Pinchas Epstein, saying that he also put his daughter in the Altshuller Beit Chinuch L’Banot where the language of instruction is Hebrew. We contacted the aforementioned Rav Gaon, member of the Badatz Eida Charedit, but it seems our letter had no effect.”

It should be noted that the Altschuller school was established by a torani rabbi David Yitzhak Altschuller. The zealous Jerusalem Haredim convinced Badatz Eida Charedit to boycott the studies there, but acquaintances of Rabbi David Yitzhak approached Rabbi Yosef Chaim and recommended and convinced the Ga’avad that there was nothing pasul there and that he was a yirei shamayim. Rabbi Yosef Chaim indeed cancelled the herem, asked Rabbi Altschuller’s forgiveness, and resisted the kana’im (see the discussion in the forum Otzer HaChochmah under the title “Beveit Chinuch Yeladim: The Altschuller School in Jerusalem”).
