“We didn’t find any remedy unless we were able to present our own case within the Jewish Agency”—a draft of a letter of apology sent by the leaders of the Eida Charedit to the Admor of Munkacs regarding their participation with Agudas Yisrael.
It was seemingly written in response to a complaint from the Rahak Minchas Eliezer regarding their participation. They write that the British regime only recognizes the Zionist administration, so they worked to have members of Agudas Yisrael enter the Jewish Agency so that they could work from the inside to achieve the independence of the Eida.
The letter is filled with original details regarding that era: “Of course as a private local Eida we would not be able to demand a position in the Jewish Agency for ourselves,
so we found it proper to work on behalf of Agudas Yisrael and strengthen it so that it would be able to separate on our behalf the Haredim from the Zionists and achieve communal independence.”
Later they recommend Agudas Yisrael: “Regarding the situation of the Agudah here in Israel, we can inform the Rav Gaon that it is administered in the most kosher way following the old traditions,
and its education is better defined than the Haredim in Czechoslovakia.”
