Letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Shimon HaLevi Bamberger with details regarding the work done to publicize the meeting between rabbis of the Eida and Lord Northcliffe.

Background: One of the successful actions taken by Haredi Judaism to separate from the General Committee was the meeting with Lord Northcliffe. In 1922, the press magnate Lord Northcliffe visited Israel. Dr. Israel De Haan, who at the time was a member of the congregation’s board and a journalist himself, took advantage of the opportunity and formed a delegation of rabbis that included Rabbi Baruch Reuven Shlomo Jungreiz and Rabbi Moshe Lieb Bernstein as well as De Haan himself. The delegation met with Northcliffe and clarified to him the position of ultra-Orthodox Judaism on the issue of separation and the question of the Land of Israel. This meeting caused a huge uproar in the Land of Israel of those days, as can be understood from this letter that Northcliffe was not "a tzaddik of all techelet", but finally the goal of the ultra-Orthodox community was achieved and the British authorities recognized its right to establish a community of its own.

The letter was sent from the Agudas Yisrael Central Office in Vienna, written probably in response to a request from the Eida for publication of the matter in world periodicals. Rav Bamberger writes: “The Council did not agree to put into writing regarding Lord Northcliffe’s visit,
since he is not interested in the good of the Jewish people, but it was written in a different newspaper, which also is read by many…”
