Long letter regarding his participation at the 3rd Knessiya Gedolah of Agudas Yisrael in Marienbad. Kovna 1937.
“Of course, I longed to fulfill my promise to be among the Knessiya for this mitzvah”. Background: Rav Bengis moved to Jerusalem to serve as Ra’avad in 1938, but in fact the appointment preceded the year of his arrival by at least a year, as can be seen in this letter which was written during the waiting period between his term as Av Beit Din of Kalvarija and his immigration to the Land of Israel. At the end of the year 1937, he began preparations for his immigration to the Land of Israel, but at that time the third Knessiya Gedolah of Agudas Israel was held in Marienbad, which he had promised to appear and take part in. In his letter, he asks Rabbi Bernstein to give him advice on how to both participate in the church and be in Israel by the time he promised to come.
As we know in hindsight, Rabbeinu indeed participated in the end in the Knessiya Gedolah at Marienbad.
