Sefer HaChaim v’HaShalom, droshim on various subjects by Rabbi Shalom Haddadya. [2], 120, [2] leaves. Leaf 64 has a printer’s error. The title page and other leaves are detached together as a group. Antique binding, defective leather spine, stains, overall good condition.

The back of the title page has a sticker with a dedication from the author to “the wonderful Rav, darshan, shochet u’Bodek Yosef Chaim Or Shraga.” Many additional notes in the binding leaves in Mizrahi handwriting, probably handwritten by the aforementioned Rabbi Yosef Chaim Or Shraga. Various stamps.

The author: kabbalist Rabbi Shalom Hadaya (1864-1945) was the son of Rabbi Moshe Chaim. He was one of the greatest sages of Aleppo and served there as dayan. He immigrated to Jerusalem and headed the Beit El kabbalistic yeshiva. He was known for his correspondence with Rabbi Elchanan Wasserman regarding kabbalah.

The recipient is probably Rabbi Yosef Chaim Or Shraga of Yazd. He served as shochet u’bodek and was at the center of controversy about his kosher status due to close-minded informants. There are letters from gedolim who clear his name from the slanders and confirm his kashrut as a shochet.
