Buyer's premium:

1. Sefer Midrash Shmuel, an exegesis on Pirkei Avot by Rabbi Shmuel de Uzida of Tzfat, a student of the Ari and friend of the Ramak. Printed in Frankfurt-am-Mein, 1713. 64 leaves. Catalogued in the Rare Books section of the National Library. The last page has a riddle from the ibn Ezra with a commentary from Rabbi David Greenhaut. Approbation from the gaon Rabbi Shmuel Kohen Satin. Title page and first leaves are creased with tears, with tape and defects.

2. Sefer Zera Berach Shlishi, by Rabbi Berachya Birech, on the parshiyot of the Torah (in practice only Bereishit was printed because of a conflict with the leader of the municipality, who sent him to prison because he wasn’t authorized to live in the city, “and he barely escaped with his life”.). First edition, Halle 1714. [1], 37 leaves. Catalogued in the Rare Books section of the National Library. Important approbations from geonim Rabbi Avraham Oppenheim, Rabbi Wolf Sirkesh, and more. Stains and wear, creases, tape and a little worming.

Bound together in an old binding with a leather spine. Overall fair condition.

The back of the front binding has an antique note of ownership handwritten by Rabbi Simcha (Simon) Bamberger of Aschaffenburg, son of Rabbi Yitzhak Dov Bamberger of Wurzburg, and father of Rabbi Yitzhak Sekel Bamberger, the district rabbi of Bad-Kissingen (Bavaria). The body of the work has an folded leaf inserted with chiddushei torah handwritten by him.

The title page of Midrash Shmuel has a note: “the holy Yali ben Zalman Weil shlit”—not checked.
