Sefer Yikarei d’Shichvei, eulogies on gedolim given by Rabbi Yosef David, Av Beit Din of Salonika, who wrote many works across the Jewish spectrum and is especially known for Beit David on the Arba Turim.
Only edition (there are a few later editions which are facsimiles of this edition). [3], 230 leaves.
Catalogued in the National Library’s Rare Books section. Approbation from Salonika rabbis. Leaf 121 (supposed to be p. 221) there is a title: “LaMenatzeach B’Meginot L’Yosef Tzir” – fifty stanzas of kinot on the author’s death by Rabbi Emmanuel ben Rabbi Refael Kolbo. Opens with “Hitmareru Levot b’Rosh Harelo”.
New binding, various defects, a few holes, a few bits of worming damage in a some places, stains, overall fair condition.
The title page has an important signature:
“The Young Chaim ben HaRahag Maharam Sathon”. Handwritten signature by Rabbi Chaim Sathon (1870-1916), son of Rabbi Menashe Sathon. He was a great rabbi of Tzfat, became famous mostly for his work Eretz Chaim (which includes matters related to the Land of Israel and minhagim and takanot and haskamot of Rishonim and Achronim in Israel, and in which he also included some of his enlightening chiddushim; the work is filled with approbations from gedolim of Jerusalem).
