Buyer's premium:

Letter signed by the kabbalist Admor Rabbi Elimelech Menachem Mendel Landau of Strikov, during a visit to Jerusalem. Contents: a request for support for a Jew to receive an immigration certificate, “the man Shimon Gershnowitz … is honest and true in his Judaism and deserves unreservedly to receive an immigration certificate.” Probably sent to Agudas Yisrael because they had a budget of immigration certificates and it would explain the “true in his Judaism” remark.

The letter is signed by hand and stamped. 12x20cm. Stains, creases, light tears in the creases, good condition.

The Admor Rabbi Elimelech Menachem Mendel Landau of Strikov (1859-1936) was the son of the Admor Rabbi Avraham of Chechnow (the Tzluta d’Avraham) and would travel to the Admorim Rabbi Yehiel of Alexander and his son the Admor Yismach Yisrael. In 1910 after his brother’s death (Admor Rabbi Aharon Zvi of Biela) he began to act as Admor and received his brother’s chassidim. He was one of the greatest Admorim in Poland. He visited Israel twice—in 1924 and 1935—and had connections with kabbalistic gedolim there (Rabbi Shlomo Alfandery the Saba Kadisha and Rabbi Chaim Shaul HaKohen Davich especially).
