Rabbi Yaakov Chai Zion Edes (1898-1963) was head of the Porat Yosef yeshiva for 30 years and Av Beit Din of the Rabbinate in Jerusalem. He served as a member of the Supreme Rabbinical Court and a member of the Council of the Chief Rabbinate. His sons established the Yeshivat Kol Yaakov in his memory.
Rabbi Yaakov Kelmes (1880-1953) was rabbi of the Chabad Marina Roshcha synagogue and then was Rabbi of Moscow during the period of increasing persecution, as a result of which he was spirited away from behind the Iron Curtain and moved to Israel, where he served as a member of the Council of the Chief Rabbinate before the country’s establishment.
Rabbi Shalom Azoulay (1890-1961) was from Sefrou, Morocco. He was a darshan and many came to hear him, even though they would sometimes last around four hours. He served as a member o the Maghrebi beit din and then as Ra’avad of the beit din and a member of the Supreme Beit Din of Appeals.
