Manuscript with the Seder Hakafot traditionally done at burial by members of the Chevra Kadisha.

Many communities have the tradition of doing hakafot around the dead person at the burial. Members of the Chevra Kadisha do seven revolutions around the person and at each one give a pruta for tzedakah and say a number of verses and a unique prayer. This tradition is known erroneously by the public as a “minhag Yerushalayim” but, as we can see in this booklet, the tradition was widespread across communities in Europe. This manuscript is a small booklet held by the “Rosh HaDegel”, who would read the order of verses and prayers during hakafot.

The year Molin (in Ukraine) was the residence of the Admor Rabbi Gedalya and his son Rabbi Mordechai Molin. Like all the other cities in the district, Molin suffered during World War II, and the devastation perhaps explains why the members of the Chevra Kadisha needed to copy the prayers by hand and/or make additional copies.
