Letter handwritten and signed by the Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Isaac HaLevi Herzog, from Tuesday of the week of Beshalach, 1932. Addressed to “My father-in-law the rav gaon shlita.” Rabbi Shmuel Yitzhak Hillman, Ra’avad of London.

During the letter he deals with an explosive issue that has sometimes been a cause for controversy in entire communities – about the kashrus of a particular butcher: “mainly because I doubt his feeling in the checking of the nail…”; regarding which beit din ought to discuss the matter: “I believe that it is better to bring two rabbis here to join me in a beit din of three and decide the judgment…”. Later he notes that the compromise he offered to both sides was cancelled.
