Lot 244:
A pronouncement in Yiddish regarding women’s modesty by the Admor Rabbi Issachar Dov Rokeach of Belz, 1930s (estimated by the National Library). A copy of the public call made by the Admor of Belz a few years after WWI in Lodz (1923).
The rabbi deplores the falling standards of women’s dress and reminds readers of the relevant halachot on the subject. According to what appears in the National Library, the proclamation was printed in the late 1930s, but it is puzzling – who had an interest in distributing such a proclamation in Paris in the 1930s? We believe that it was printed after the Shoah, when Chassidic survivors from various camps had arrived in Paris.
21x27cm. Stains, creases, good condition.
