Rabbi Shalom Aharon Lopes (1905-1995) was rabbi of the city of Akko (Acre) for 45 years. Born in Aleppo, Syria, he immigrated to Israel and became close with Jerusalem rabbis: the Brisker Rav, Rabbi Zvi Pesach Frank, and Rabbi Amram Blau, and he worked on their behalf. He established the Agudah “Mikbatziel” with Rabbi Yehuda Tzedakah. In 1950 he was asked by the Rishon LeZion Rabbi Ben Zion Meir Chai Uziel to accept the position as Chief Rabbi of Akko.
