“I hereby request from his honor to respond to me clearly regarding the matter”—a strongly worded letter of warning handwritten and signed by the Mara d’Atra, Rabbi Yosef Chaim Zonenfeld, to the head of the menakrim in Jerusalem. Jerusalem 1919.

The rabbi writes his remarks regarding a letter sent to him by members of the administration of the Eida Charedit, in which they criticize the kashrut of the nikkur done at slaughterhouses in Meah She’arim. He sent the letter together with his remarks to the head of the menakrim. He writes: “If I don’t receive a response I will be forced to publish the above letter until I receive a clear reply regarding the matter, handwritten.”
