Lot 059:
Sefer Maaseh Tuvya, considered the first Hebrew medical book. It talks about the foundations of belief and kabbalah, astronomy and research, cosmography and geography. By Rabbi Tuvya Katz HaRofeh. Third edition, Lviv 1867. Three sections with three title pages. The title page of the third section lists the printing location as Stettin.
The body of the work has many interesting, eye-catching illustrations on the foundational substsances and anatomy of the human body. Page 97 has a detailed illustration of the human body and its internal organs, and analogizes it to a multi-story building. Page 88 has a “table teaching one how to recognize the signs” of various illnesses.
Approbation of Rabbi David Oppenheim and Venice rabbis. Light-blue paper. Lone pages are detached but in complete form. Stains, overall very good condition. Was not checked on a page-by-page basis to make sure no pages were missing, there is inconsistency in the bibliographic listings of the work regarding the pagination. Seems to be in complete form.
