Lot 248:
Peer v’Kavod, first section (it seems that no subsequent sections were printed), on actions taken by tzaddikim including jokes and secular discussions from talmidei chachamim, on the Yismach Moshe and Yeitev Lev of Sighet, the Sar Shalom of Belz, and his son Rabbi Yehoshua. Published by Rabbi Dov bar Herman, first edition printed by Meizles and Gortenberg. [2], 48 leaves. On the back of the title page is the publisher’s signature.
Bound with Maamar Sichat Chulin of Talmidei Chachamim. Second publication with additions, Warsaw 1880.
New binding, stains. Peer v’Kavod was done in a high-quality printing and is in very good condition with lone worming holes. Sichat Chulin wasn’t checked thoroughly but isn’t in as good of a condition.
The title pages have stamps of the gaon Rabbi Avraham Moshe Babad of Gura-Homora.
Rabbi Avraham Moshe Babad (1900-1980) was the son of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Babad, and a rabbi and chassidic rosh yeshiva in Bukovina and Israel, a student of the Gaon Rabbi Meir Arik of Tornov. He inherited his father’s position, and after WWII tried to immigrate to Israel but was sent to Cyprus in 1948 by the British, where he served as rabbi of the detention camp. After making it to Israel he was in constant contact with the Chazon Ish. Around 1952 he was appointed for a time as the Rosh Yeshiva of Yechel Yisrael of the Seret-Vizhnitz Chassidic community, led by his son-in-law Admor Rabbi Baruch Hager.
