Letter in Mizrahi script—the handwriting and signature of Rabbi Avrahma Philosof.

“for my son, my friend, and dear Yaakov, attached to this are two Israeli lira, small help for now because I could not do more, two months we have not received our salaries because of issues. May Hashem have mercy on you and us and say enough to our struggles, amen may it be His will, your father Avraham Philosof.” Then he adds a few words: “Let me know that you received them, peace to you and to your family.”

Rabbi Avraham Philosof (1864-1940) was born in Vienna. He was a Jerusalem public figure, head of the Tiferet Yerushalayim yeshiva, manager and president of the Sefardi orphanage, member of the Vaad of the Sefardi community in Jerusalem. He served as Av Beit Din of the community there and member of the Israeli Council of Torah Sages. There are piskei din in which he is signed together with the geonim Rav Kook and Rav Zvi Pesach Frank.
