The author (and stamper) Rabbi Eliezer Zussman Sofer (1828-1903) was the son of Rabbi Ephraim Fishel Sofer, a student of the Chatam Sofer. He was rabbi and rosh yeshiva in Kishkonels and Paksh, Hungary, a leader of Orthodox Jewry in Hungary at the end of the 19th century. He corresponded with halachic greats of his generation; he was offered rabbinical positions in additional important towns of the area but refused because of the presence there of reformists who strayed from the torah.

He wrote Yalkut Eliezer (collected from midrashim, organized alphabetically, with exegesis. 3 volumes), Yalkut Sofer (on the Book of Psalms); Et Sofer (“klalim” in halacha. 4 volumes); Damesek Eliezer (on the Torah, 2 vols.); Sefer HaMakneh (on kinyanim; 2 vols.); MiLeah Ketoret (drashot and eulogies); Yad Eliezer (chiddushei Aggadah, printed as an appendix to his brother’s book Peles Chaim).
