Sefer Shut Ohel Yosef by Rabbi Yosef Eliyahu Fried, Av Beit Din of Shokian and then rabbi and Motz in New York. The book makes clear the rabbi’s position among the sages of his generation—one tshuva responds to the Saba of Chelm (Rabbi Simcha Ziskind), and there are tshuvot from Rabbi Yitzhak Elchanan of Kovna to the author.

The book has a number of tshuvot related to Jewish life in New York at the time: “whether it is permissible to cross the river on Shabbos with the boat called the ‘ferry’” (probably referring to the East River separating Brooklyn from Manhattan), “a man went on a boat into the Atlantic”, and more.
