Letter from the Admor Rabbi Shlmo Halberstam of Babov, sent to Rabbi Yoel Hirschprung regarding the publication of the book “Shem Olam.” Signed in the unique manner by the Admor, with the additional handwritten line by him. The book Shem Olam was a manuscript in the geniza of the Kedushat Zion of Babov. The Kedushat Zion gave it to Rabbi Chaim Schiff, father-in-law of Rabbi Yoel Hirschprung, who gave it to his son-in-law Rabbi Avraham Zvi in order to edit it for printing. Rabbi Avraham Zvi, a very erudite man, copied the Sefardi manuscript into Assyrian script and printed it in a reduced format. The letter before us recounts the whole story and discusses it with Rabbi Avraham Zvi’s brother, Rabbi Yoel, who reprinte dit. The letter was handwritten by Rabbi Yeshaya Wolf Zapern, while the Admor added the line by hand: “So says your friend who asks after you with great love and blesses you with a kosher and happy chag, the holy Shlomo Halberstam.” Bears the official logo. 27x18cm. Very good condition.

The Admor Rabbi Shlomo Halberstam of Babov (1908-2000) was the son of the Kedushat Zion hy”d and the 3rd Admor of Babov. Already from an early age he was known as a huge talmid chacham and he became well-known across Galicia. After the Shoah he gathered the remains of the movement from the DP camps in Europe, and he immigrated with them to the US. Wherever he settled his beit midrash became a center for prayer and he would carry out tisches on shabbat and yamim tovim. He led Babov for more than 50 years and had thousands of students.
