Exciting collection of receipts certifying support for the Vaad Klali Kollel, received by gedolim in the prior generations, who handwrote their certification of receipt of monthly support. Most members of the Old Yishuv required the funds to live.

  • Tzaddik Rabbi Aryeh Levin (1885-1969) – the Avi HaAsirim
  • Admor Rabbi David Twersky of Rachmastrivka (1872-1950)
  • Rabbi Yaakov Moshe Harlap (1882-1952), a posek and kabbalist, head of the Merkaz HaRav yeshivot and Beit Zvul, and rabbi of Shaarei Chesed and Rechavya in Jerusalem, student of Rav Kook.
  • Rabbi Yitzhak Blazer (1837-1907), an early leader of the mussar movement and a student of Rabbi Yisrael Salanter. Receipt lists dates a few months before his death—it hasn’t been checked whether this is his signature or whether it was signed by someone else on his behalf
  • Rabbi Zerach Reuven Braverman (died 1938)—head of the Me’ah She’arim yeshiva and a gadol of Jerusalem.
  • Rabbi Avraham Elyashiv (1877-1943)—the Rebbe of Homel. The signature on the receipt is from his son Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, who signed using his full name!
  • Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach (1910-1995), head of the Kol Torah yeshiva, an important posek halacha of our time
  • Rabbi Pinchas Epstein (died 1970)—Ra’avad of the Eida Charedit in Jerusalem.
  • Rabbi Yosef Gershon Horwitz (1869-1951), rabbi of the Me’ah She’arim yeshiva and the neighborhood in Jerusalem.
  • Rabbi Avraham David Rosenthal (1903-1999) – a posek, dayan, and head of the beit din Tzedek Ashkenazi in Jerusalem, and rabbi of Shaarei Chesed. Signed a number of receipts as a representative of the Kollel.
  • Rabbi Yehoshua Alter Wildman of Końskowola -Jerusalem (died 1934).
  • Rabbi Shmuel Hominer (1914-1977) – author of the Eved HaMelech. Signing his receipt was Rabbi Yosef Leib Zussman (1923-2000), a Jerusalem rabbi and kabbalist.
  • Rabbi Yaakov Yosef Dzimitrovsky (1880-1966), a Jerusalem rabbi and gaon.
  • Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Bloch (1886-1976), a Lithuanian kabbalist and rabbi, one of the most prominent figures in the mussar movement in the generation after WWII. He was a student of the Chafetz Chaim.
