Lot 071:
Long halachic tshuva handwritten by Rabbi Ovadya Yosef, in answer to a some journalists’ question as to whether or not it was permitted to travel to Egypt.
“In answer to the religious journalists, whether it is permitted to travel to Egypt in order to be present and able to report on the peace negotiations of the Cairo Commission”. The response, written during the peace negotiations which took place after Begin’s meeting with Sadat, came when religious journalists approached Rabbi Yosef asking whether or not travelling to Egypt would violate the rule against the Jewish people returning to Egypt.
Rabbeinu surveys the sources of the prohibition and the sources permitting such travel and even residing in Egypt. In summary he writes “it is permitted to journalists from Israel to travel to Egypt, to report on the negotiations with our neighbors, may Hashem give his people strength and bless his people with peace.”
A rare, exciting, and historical halachic tshuva! 6 leaves, written on one side, handwritten by Rabbi Ovadya Yosef, on official letterhead. Various sizes, very good condition.
