Sefer Zivchei Kohen, a summary of laws of shechita and bedika of lungs and laws of nikkur following the minhag of Italian Jewry, with wonderful illustrations made from woodcut engravings, by Rabbi Yitzhak ben Rabbi Meir HaKohen, shochet of the city of Livorno. Hebrew and Italian “so that it will be common to all” appears on the title page.
Printed by Eliezer Menachem Ottolenghi, first and only edition. 64 pages, 8 folded pages with woodcut illustrations.
This edition has all 8 illustrations—whereas the National Library and Bar Ilan copies (held in the Rare Books section) have only 7.
The engravings include the pure and impure birds (the peacock appears in the former as similar to the chicken family), a detailed anatomy of land animals, and an engraving showing the term “drusa” with an illustration of a lion preying on an animal.
Old binding, light defects, overall good condition.
