Typewritten letter on official letterhead, from Erev Rosh Chodesh Av, 1982. Not printed in Igrot Kodesh. Before the name of the recipient the Rebbe added the word by hand, “HaRav”.

The letter highlights the Rebbe’s well-known great expectation for the Geulah: “adjacent to Rosh Chodesh Av, with the mazal of the lion, Hashem will roar—Menachem Zion u’Boneh Yerushalayim…for its Redemption we have hoped all day every day…may the day arrive and we be called to Zion, with honor and blessing”. Handwritten signature of the Rebbe.

Then there are two handwritten lines from the Rebbe: “My belief is well-known: that in our time education comes before Taharat Hakodesh, in spreading Judaism, the ma’ayanot, or both.”
