Typewritten letter on official letterhead of Rabbi Shmaryahu Guraryeh, son-in-law of the Rayatz and head of the Vaad HaPoel Tomchei Temimim. From Nissan 1968. Addressed (after many titles) to Rabbi Hillel Medalya when he resided in Antwerp (Belgium).
He blesses the recipient: “I hereby bless in this that the Creator of Refuot will strengthen his health and send him a refuah shlema quickly and that he return to us quickly, and may Hashem lengthen his days and years in good and peace and give him the strength that he may be able to do more chizuk of Torah…from nachat…”. Later he moves on to a technical matter and ends with a lengthy sign off and signature. Overall good condition.
Rabbi Dr. Hillel Medalia (1916 – 1977), left Russia in 1922. He received a Torah and general education, and received a doctorate in philosophy. He was one of the leaders of the Mizrahi movement in England, served as rabbi of Leeds (England), Dublin (Ireland) and Antwerp (Belgium). He published a book, which he called ‘Sheila’, which alludes to the name of his father – Shmaryahu Yehuda Leib, in conjunction with his name – Hillel. He also exalted the Shulchan Aruch with an English translation.
