Buyer's premium:

$50 bill given by the Rebbe. On the back is an inscription: “From his Holiness the Admor shlita, for the purchase of the siddur Beit Oved for him, mentioned in the Likkutei Sichot”, with a separate signature bearing the name of the recipient: “Shaul Shimon Deutsch”. Overall good condition.

The story begins in the early 1980s, when Rabbi Shaul Shimon (the above) edited a list of all the books mentioned by the Rebbe in his letters which he did not possess. Rabbi Deutsch attempted to acquire all of the books that he was lacking.

In one of his letters (Likkutei Sichot, Vol. 19, p. 459), the Rebbe mentions a minhag referred to in the Siddur Beit Oved as a Sefardi minhag with dinim (Livorno 1862), and notes that he does not possess the book. Rabbi Deutsch searched for and found the book, acquiring it for the Rebbe, who in exchange gave him this bill.

The item is accompanied by a certificate from Rabbi Deutsch in which he explains the whole story in detail.
