Lot 229:
Recommendation letter written and signed by Rabbi Hirsch Rapaport, addressed from the home of the Admor Rabbi David Moshe of Chortkov. The recommendation is for Rabbi Moshe and his son David of Tiberias. He writes: “They are travelling nomadically around Chul as a result of their need and their poverty in Israel; people are coming to them to collect debts and there are more to come, so I have written this letter in mercy for them…for the great mitzvah and may they be blessed with the blessing of Maran for all good things.” He ends it with: “written at the order of the holy Zvi Hirsch Rapaport.” Official stamp.

Admor Rabbi David Moshe Friedman of Chortkov (1827-1904) was the forefather of the Chortkov dynasty, the son of Rabbi Yisrael of Ruzhin (great-grandson of the Maggid of Mastrich) and son-in-law of Rabbi Aaron of Chernobyl. Among his followers were Admorim and other famous rabbis, such as Rabbi Meir Arik, the Maharsham of Berezan, Rabbi Shmuel Weinberg of Slonim and his student Rabbi Mordechai Haim of Slonim, Rabbi Menachem Kalish and his son Rabbi Yosef Kalish, and Admorim of Amnishov.
