The Admor Rabbi Yochanan Sofer of Erlau (1924-2016) was the 5th generation descendant of the Chatam Sofer, a student of Admor Rabbi Aharon of Belz. He established the Erlau yeshiva and led it for 50 years until his death in 2016. He was famous as a gaon and holy man. He served as a member of the Council of Torah Sages for many years and was one of the highest members of the Haredi community during important times.
