Original postcard from the Rabbinical Beit Midrash of Berlin, dated “Monday night, 2nd night of Channukah”, handwritten and signed by the gaon Rabbi Yehiel Yaakov Weinberg. Addressed to “my friend the Rabbi Shlita”: “Tomorrow im yirtze Hashem I will be travelling to Nuremberg for the wedding of my friend the Rabbi Avraham Wolff…and if possible I may come on Wednesday to Nuremberg because I have an important need to speak to him, writing quickly his friend Yehiel Yaakov.”
15×10.5cm, light stains, filing holes.
Rabbi Yehiel Yaakov Weinberg (1884-1966) was the Rabbi of Pilvishky in Lithuania. He was a student of the Saba of Slobodka and the Rabbi of Maran HaGra’il Steinman. He served as head of the Rabbinical Beit Midrash of Berlin. His writings which survived the Shoah were published as a Shut “Sridei Esh.”
