“My son-in-law learns well and teaches others too, he sees a blessing in his hard work.” Long letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Meir Chadash, the mashgiach of the Chevron yeshiva, written to Rabbi Hillel Medalya, the Av Beit Din of Liege. London, 1955. He references his son-in-law, who is no other than the head of Ateret Yisrael yeshiva, Rabbi Baruch Mordechai Ezrachi, shlita. At the end he wishes on behalf of his whole family “a shana tova, a happy year, may all our desires be fulfilled for good, a year of geulah and yeshua.”

Rabbi Meir Chadash (1898-1989) was the son of a talmid muvhak of the Saba of Slobodka. He was mashgiach of Yeshivas Chevron for more than 50 years. He also served as mashgiach of Ateret Yisrael and Ohr Elchanan, and stood out among the personalities of the mussar movement. He moved to Israel in 1926. His sons and sons-in-law are very prominent today in the yeshivas of Israel. He wrote: Ohr Chadash, Ohr Meir, and more.

Rabbi Dr. Hillel Medalia (1916 – 1977), left Russia in 1922. He received a Torah and general education, and received a doctorate in philosophy. He was one of the leaders of the Mizrahi movement in England, served as rabbi of Leeds (England), Dublin (Ireland) and Antwerp (Belgium). He published a book, which he called ‘Sheila’, which alludes to the name of his father – Shmaryahu Yehuda Leib, in conjunction with his name – Hillel. He also exalted the Shulchan Aruch with an English translation.
