Shut Even Yekara on the four sections of the Shulchan Aruch, with notes “M’lo’at Even” by Rabbi Binyamin Aryeh HaKohen Weiss, Av Beit Din of Chernowitz. First edition, Lemberg 1894. Long introduction by the author. At the end is the Tanina edition with a separate title page, with gilded letters. Przmyslan 1901. [4], 38, 109, [1], 4, [1], 106 leaves.

Antique binding, defective leather spine, stains, overall good condition.

The body of the work is filled with notes and symbols in the margins, some of which are long and significant and testify to the gadlus of the writer.

Blank first leaf has the signature: “Rabbi Yosef Zvi Katz, the Jewish community of Bucharest”, see below. Body of the work has blurred stamps.

Rabbi Yosef Hirsch Zvi Katz (died in 1943?) was the son of Rabbi Shlomo, a chazan and shochet. He was rabbi in Bucharest for 30 years and a member of the local rabbinical council. He held a beit midrash in his home, which became known as “Beit Midrash Katz”. He was murdered in the Shoah. See Encyclopedia of Romanian Jewry, p. 555).
