Lot 071:
“Siddur HaMachzor, first section, nusach Ashkenaz”, printed by Zeckel ben Aharon, Zulzbach. Based on the title page it was printed in 1794 but the colophon of the second section claims instead it was in 1806. [1], 54, [6 unnumbered leaves – the full Shir HaYichud], 158, [1], 159-232 leaves. At the end is Hadarat Kodesh, 12 leaves.
The title page is made from a handsome woodcut engraving: Moshe and Aharon, Jacob’s dream, the Migdal HaPalga, Noah’s Ark, and other Biblical motifs. Large format suited for a chazan of a synagogue, 33x20cm.
Antique leather binding matches the period of printing, stains, moth holes, overall good condition.
There is a long dedication in a cursive script on the first blank leaf, “for the Beit Midrash of my dear father-in-law, Rabbi Moshe Grossman in Frankfurt-am-Mein, in 1921”, signed “from me the young David Bergman of Ludwigshafen on the Rhein.
