“Whoever looks at my maamar will see that I did not intend my words for the Eida Charedit”, a letter of clarification to the management of the Eida Charedit from Rabbi Haim Shaul Karlitz, regarding a publication in the Eida’s newspaper. The letter crowns the Eida Charedit as the “holy community of the Sheerit Plita preserving the purity of holiness”.

Rabbi Haim Shaul Karlitz (1912-2001) was a great talmid chacham who lived in Bnei Brak and was a posek of our generation. He was the son of Rabbi Meir Karlitz, the eldest brother of the Chazon Ish. He studied undre Rabbi Elchanan Wasserman in the Brenovitz yeshiva, under Rabbi Baruch Beer Leibowitz in the Kaminitz yeshiva, and under his uncle the Chazon Ish. After moving to Israel he studied at the Lomza yeshiva in Petah Tikva. Among his rabbis there were Rabbi Eliezer Menachem Man Shach, who remained his rabbi for the rest of his life.
After his marriage he studied at the Beit Midrash L’Torat Eretz Yisrael in Petah Tikva, where he studied in a chavruta with Rabbi Aharon Leib Steinman and at the Kollel Chazon Ish in Bnei Brak. He was the spiritual leader of the Beit Meir yeshiva named after his father, and he led the Badatz Sheerit Yisrael.
