Lot 191:
1. Glosses of Rabbi Akiva Eiger on the Choshen Mishpat and Even HaEzer, brought to the publisher by the author’s great-grandson Rabbi Nachum Streisand. First edition, Tehran 1869. At the end are likkutim from the author. [4], 108, [1] leaves. Approbations from Rabbi Eliyahu of Gridz, Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Kalisher, and more. Repaired title page.
2. Ar’ah d’Rabbanan, around 700 klalim organized alphabetically from research into halacha and its sources, by Rabbi Yisrael Yaakov Elgazi of Jerusalem. With additions and glosses “Afra d’Ar’ah” by Rabi Yehuda Ayash. Printed in Johannesburg 1855. 77 leaves. Repaired title page.
3. Chiddushei HaRamban on Masechet Chulin, printed in Warsaw 1859. 46 leaves. Orange stains, not checked thoroughly. A number of moth holes, old binding with leather spine, stains, front binding detached, mostly very good condition.
The title page has an old note: “This book belongs to the great rabbi Yisrael Isser bar Shlomo Yanovsky”—he was Av Beit Din of Švėkšna, son-in-law of Rabbi Elchanan Kohen (nicknamed Rabbi Chanan Salanter because he was the representative of the tzaddik Rabbi Yisrael Salanter in Pressburg).
Stamp on the first blank leaf: “Avraham Yaakov ben HaRiya Neumark”—Rabbi Avraham Yaakov Neumark (1879-1962) was the son of Rabbi Meshulam Zalman, rabbi of Storodov. He was a member of the Chief Rabbinate of Tel Aviv. His family belonged to the Chabad chassidus. He studied in the Telz yeshiva, served in the rabbinate of Pren, Lithuania and in 1932 he was appointed rabbi of Tel Aviv. He twice won the Rav Kook Prize for Judaic Literature. He also edited the Chiddushei HaRiya (the writings of Rabbi Yisrael Aba Citron). Among his books are the series Eshel Avraham.
