Auction 45
Lot 167:
Dozens of bank documents of the Shaarei Chesed General Gamach in Jerusalem, signed by Jerusalem figures from 1944-1948.
The language includes a description of the pledged property, such as a gold watch, chain, bracelets, a silver cup, a pair of nose rings, etc. This is an authentic testimony to the life of poverty and want at the time and the great chesed in Jerusalem in the days before the State. Some of the signatories could not write or read and signed their name using a fingerprint.
Among the signatures: Rabbi Yehiel Matityahu Davies (the Matat Melech on the Rambam), Rabbi Uriel Zimmer, Rabbi Haim Yisrael Haltovsky, Rabbi Haim Aharon Turchin (head of the Yeshiva L’Metzuyanim and a student of the Brisker Rav), Rabbi Shmuel Tapilensky (author of the Tzav’ah pamphlet), Rabbi Moshe Yehoshua Landau (a student of the Chazon Ish), the Shaz Parush, Rabbi Avraham Pereg, the kabbalist Rabbi Aharon Avraham Slotky, and Mrs. Rivka Beiderman, daughter of Rabbi Shimon Natan Neta of Lalov.
Various conditions, most very good condition.
