Buyer's premium:

Long letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Yonatan Binyamin HaLevi Ish Horwitz, the rabbi of Bistritz and head of the Agudas Yisrael in Jerusalem, on current events in the Eida Charedit.

He writes that “I wait good news regarding the improvement of the relationship with Chassidus Gur…we can trust your wisdom to find ways to come closer…and maybe there is a need to teach via clear actions that take account of the influence of the Admor of Gur, for instance to add to our Beit Din rabbis who carry his flag.”

Rabbi Yonatan suggests to appoint Rabbi Meir Dan Plotzky (the author of the Kli Chemda) to one of the batei dinim of the Eida, and writes that he already talked about this with the goan shlita (Rabbi Yosef Haim Zonenfeld). “And secretly I hereby wish to know your opinion on the matter, after sharing it with Maran shlita about Rabbi Meir Dan, after I saw that the Admor of Gur shlita gave him great respect, and he (Rabbi Meir Dan) wrote me of his great desire to settle in Jerusalem.”

21x25cm, light creases, filing holes, very good condition.

Rabbi Yonatan Binyamin HaLevi Ish Horwitz (1866-1940) was the rabbi of Bistritz and other communities. In 1906 he was sent by the Amsterdam officials and clerks to oversee from up close the division of land in Israel. His work, which relied on huge sources of investment, led him to deal with a variety of areas: giving out money to those in need and to talmidei chachamim, establishing schools in cities and moshavs, and more. He managed for many years shelters in the Old City, and even lived in them. In 1912 he was a founder of the Agudas Yisrael branch in Israel and Jerusalem, and after WWI he served as head of the Jerusalem branch. He worked greatly for Agudas Yisrael and the Eida Charedit before their paths diverged.
