Lot 162:
Strongly worded protest letter from Rabbi Pinchas Epstein on the fair division of salaries among the administration of the Eida, its rabbis, and members. Jerusalem 1939.
A particularly sharp letter of protest sent by Rabbi Pinchas Epstein during his tenure as a judge in the court of the Haredi community, to the management of the community. In his letter, Rabbeinu complains that the distribution of wages among the Eida is not being conducted fairly. He writes: “to stand for the respect of the members of the Badatz, that their honor shall not be worse than other pekidim…even if I won’t come noisily and with calls for boycotts, I will be brief and say Sim Shalom on the rabbis and dayanim…don’t assume our silence to be acceptance.”
He ends with a blessing for the uplifting of the Torah’s honor and that of its sages, “also among us, the Haredim!”. Interestingly worded stamp: “v’Ya’amod Pinchas v’yipalel be Rav Yeshaya”.
21x27cm. Small tear in the right side, light creases, good condition.
