Sefer Shut Avodat HaGershoni by Rabbi Gershon Ashkenazi, the Av Beit Din of Niklasburg, Vienna and Mitz. Illustrated title page, first edition. Rabbi Gershon Ashkenazi was one of the important responsa authors of his generation and was rabbi of large and important communities of the day. The title page goes into detail of his travels and the communities he led, and mentions the exile of the Austrian Jewish community in the 15th century.

The book’s title page has the signature of Rabbi Mordechai Friedman of Mastrich in Lithuania, author of the work Me’orer Yeshanim, a talmid chacham in his generation who corresponded with many sages. Rabbi Haim Berlin wrote of him.

Signatures and stamps in the body of the work: stamp of Ben Zion HaKohen Mendelson, Av Beit Din of No’ark, stamp of Rabbi Michael Berman Chelsea Mass., and signature of David Yudal Kaufman(?).Other unidentifiable signatures and notes.
