Lot 252:
Letter handwritten and signed by Admor Rabbi Avraham Weinberg of Slonim, on blank letterhead of his uncle the Admor Beit Avraham, when the movement resided in Berenowitz. The printed date at the top of the leaf is 1933, the recipient’s name is cut and unknown. Based on the content is seems to have been sent during the year following his uncle’s death, to one of his students in Tiberias just before Sukkot.
The content is overflowing with love for the Jewish people and uplifting messages. He offers a good and kosher chag, ketiva and chatima tovah, good and long life, parnasa, etc., and is very profuse in his blessings. He then refers some technical issue related it seems to the Talmud Torah Ohr Torah in Tiberias, and mentions the abbreviated name “Rimel”, probably referring to the well-known chassid Rabbi Yitzhak Matityahu Luria of Tiberias.
The material is dense, not entirely understood. Size: 21.5×18.5cm. Cut in the margins on the top and bottom, overall good condition.
Admor Rabbi Avraham Weinberg, the Birkat Avraham of Slonim, (1888-1941) was the son of Rabbi Noach Weinberg. He was the 5th Admor in the dynasty, a member of the Council of Torah Sages, a businessman and educator. In his youth he travelled a number of times to live with his uncle, the Admor Rabbi Shmuel Weinberg, and even served as his delegation for other rabbis—Rabbi Haim of Brisk, the hafetz Haim, and Rabbi Yisrael of Chortkov—including for establishing Agudas Yisrael. He lived in Tiberias, was a member of the Central Council of the World Agudas Yisrael, a gabbay at Yeshivat Ohr Torah, and manager of the Talmud Torah in the city.
In the municipal elections of 1934 he was appointed and was the head of Agudas Yisrael there. In 1955 after the death of Rabbi Mottl Slonim of Tiberias, he was appointed by a secret ballot to be Admor. In 1960 he moved from Tiberias to Jerusalem. He led for another 27 years.
