He was rabbi in Tolli, Mezoy Chota, and at the end of his life in Putnak. He was one of the greatest meishivs in Hungary and he taught a number of the most famous geonim of Hungary, and ruled the golden dynasty of Tenenbaum rabbis, including children and grandchildren, who continued until the Shoah.

Rabbi Menachem bar Yaakov Tenenbaum hy“d (1849-1944) was the son of Rabbi Yaakov the author of Naharei Afarsemon, and son-in-law of his uncle Rabbi Shraga Zvi Tenenbaum Tenenbaum, the author of Neta Sorek.
