Rabbi Machluf Haim Elasri was born in 1915 in Qasr a-Suk to a rabbinical family of 26 generations who dealt in practical kabbalah, amulets, and segulot. At age 16 his father passed away. He studied under Rabbi Yitzhak Abuhatzira (the Baba Khaki) and a few years later, when the Baba Sali needed to travel somewhere, he took Rabbi Machluf with him, after which time he became his talmid muvhak, as well as that of the Baba Meir, the Baba Sali’s son. He was known as a miracle worker.
