Letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Isser Zalman Melzer, addressed to the Ichud HaRabbanim, the committee for savings Jewish souls established in the USA in 1940, led by Rabbi Eliezer Silver, Rabbi Aharon Kotler, Rabbi Avraham Kalmanowitz, to save the Torah and yeshiva world in Europe. Rabbi Melzer was asking about support for an institution located in Petah Tikva, the Beit L’Torat Hashem. Size: 21x13cm. Tears, creases.
The Beit L’Torat Hashem Eretz Yisrael was one of the first kollels in Israel. Founded in 1934, over the years many sages studied there, including Rabbi Michal Yehuda Lefkowitz, Rabbi Aharon Yehuda Leib Steinman, Rabbi Haim Krauswirt. It still continues today.
Rabbi Isser Zalman Melzer (the Even HaAzal) (1870-1954) was the rabbi of Slotzk, head of the Council of Torah Sages in Israel and the head of the Etz Haim yeshiva in Jerusalem. He wrote the Even HaAzal on the Rambam, read widely across the Jewish people.
