Lot 236:
Shoshanat HaAmakim on the Torah and moadim, divided into two sections, Emek Tefila and Emek HaChochma, by the Admor Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael Twersky of Hornosteipel and Cherkos. First edition, Lublin 1884. Two title pages and an additional title page for Emek HaChochma—rare copy with gilded title pages. 47, [1], 61, [2] leaves. Light tears, repairs to the index pages, stains, old binding, overall good condition.
Second title page has an important note of ownership: “belongs to Rabbi Yochanan Twersky, Jerusalem.” The body of Emek HaChochma also has many handwritten notes, some with the name: “Rabbi Gottlieb.”
Admor Rabbi Yochanan Twersky of Rachmastrivka (1900-1982) was a descendant of Rabbi Nachum of Chernobyl (the Maor Einayim). He rejuvenated the Chassidic line after the Shoah. He studied under his father, the Admor Rabbi David, and moved with his family to Israel in 1926. After his father’s death in 1950 he was appointed his successor in Jerusalem.
